Highest point reached by DC Rhenus Contract Logistics in Son

2016-09-21

The highest point of Rhenus Contract Logistics on the business park in Ekkersrijt in Son was celebrated on Wednesday afternoon 21 September. The distribution centre for the German logistics service provider is built in two phases. Stage I is 50,000 m² and will be delivered in February 2017, phase II consists of 35,000 m² and will be constructed at a later stage.

Reaching the highest point of the DC NewLogic VI was celebrated after a brief tour on the expedition and the speeches by Mr Klanderman (DOKVAST managing director), Messrs Brockhaus and Van Erven (member of Board of directors Rhenus Group and Senior Vice President Rhenus Contract Logistics) and Mr Visser (alderman of the Municipality os Son). The honour of undertaking the official act was given to Mr Brockhaus and Mr Van Erven: placing a construction beam at the canopy.

Expansion of storage capacity
Rhenus will be expanding its storage capacity in Son with the arrival of the new DC. The company settled three years ago on the eastern portion of Ekkersrijt industrial park in a distribution centre with an area of 60,000 m², also a DOKVAST development. The extension is necessary because Rhenus Contract Logistics in the Netherlands has doubled in five years, including in the field of Health-Tech and Media products. In addition to the storage of these products, special conditioned storage of medical devices will also be done on the property.

Building process
NewLogic VI is located on a 12 hectare area and encompasses approximately 80,000 m² – including floor levels. Habeon Architecten is responsible for the design of the DC. Currently, half of the steel construction for phase I has been erected and two-thirds of the docks are ready. In cooperation with Heembouw, the DC was realized in only 7 months according to the LEAN method. A high BREEAM score was aspired for the sustainable building. The industrial building site has since been levelled completely and there is a lot of work done on the façades and roof. This will include the use of sustainable materials, automatically dimming led lighting, triple insulation glazing, extra insulation of façades and roofs and the application of a heat pump. Particular to NewLogic VI, the property will get a roof on which solar panels will be installed in the future.
