New-build for Rhenus Logistics almost complete

2013-03-12

The distribution centre has been realised in collaboration with the Heembouw branches in Roelofarendsveen and Breda at the Ekkersrijt industrial estate in Son en Breugel. DOKVAST and Rhenus have entered into a long-term rental contract. “As a developer of sustainable property, it is our goal to build the most sustainable distribution centre in the Netherlands at the Ekkersrijt location”, says Jos Klanderman, DOKVAST’s director.

The Ekkersrijt industrial estate has provided Rhenus with an opportunity to create premises that meet all of the customer’s requirements. Together with its geographical location, next to the A50 and A2, these options persuaded the company to create their new premises here. “A combination of commercial successes and a quest to optimise the business of our current clients, led us to focus on expansion options”, explains Alphons van Erven, divisional director of Rhenus Contract Logistics.

The new site covers around 52,000 m² and has been designed by Habeon Architecten. The construction work will start after the summer. The first unit is expected to be ready for delivery in February 2013. The design included Architectural Wall Panels (/products/AWP)supplied by Kingspan. The choice of a prefabricated construction approach with sandwich panels provides substantial benefits when it comes to sustainability. It is also one of the best ways to speed up the building process and reduce the risk of costly mistakes.

Kingspan believes it is vital that the environmental burden of its prefab building system is transparent and universal with respect to Greencalc, LEED, BREEAM, Valideo and others. Kingspan endeavours to continually reduce its own environmental profile by improving production and energy-efficiency, engaging in recycling or reuse and also actively encouraging the creation of a closed loop of raw materials. The insulated panel system has a BREEAM+ rating in line with the UK Green Guide to Specification.

Kingspan’s insulated sandwich panels also easily fulfil the European fire category B-s2-d0. The European B-category is very wide-ranging, allowing many materials to fulfil its requirements. FIREsafe PIR insulation foam performs significantly better than the limitations of the European regulations for this European fire category and this is taken into account by insurance firms. New foam technology – that has been developed independently – enables many of the insulated roof and facade panels to be offered with optional conformity to European fire category B-s1-d0; this makes FIREsafe PIR insulation foam even more popular.
